0 #14 Arie 2009-10-29 14:09 You can check navit port to Android:
wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Navit_on_Android

Today's snapshot worked reasonably well for me, I was able to see my position on the map moving along the street on a map as I was walking.

Quoting Ronan Dunklau:
Hello to all of you who would have contributed were it open-source: do you know any OSM-based free navigation system on android ?

Would you be interested in starting one ?

+2 #11 Arie 2009-10-19 19:23 Yes, looks like the project was abandoned. See the discussion over here:
www.andnav.org/index.php/en/community-forum/topic?id=431.

And yes, I would donate as well had the project have opensource license.

+3 #10 Grr 2009-10-19 07:40 So is AndNav abandonware now? If it were open source we could at least work on it to fix all the bugs and keep things running. Quote

0 #9 Sander Postma 2009-08-29 23:11 I read you are open for suggestions, I know 2, plus I found 1 bug.
1.
Speed dependent announcement interval.
When I am driving on the highway I don't need an announcement every few hundred meters. Inside a city center I am not interested when I have to "turn right in 2 kilometers". Maybe make this configurable somewhere.

2.
It might be an idea to try to set the matching language in the text-to-speech library when it tries to speak a street name. Then it might sound a bit familiar.

3.
Remove the "route lost" sound, and replace the "route resumed" with a modest beep. When you are driving on a new piece of road AndNav does not stop shouting this.

4.
I have not been able to successfully trace a route in a piece of highway that has changed recently. I turn on tracing, but after AndNav lost the route 30 times and after I took a new exit, the trace I was trying to upload is lost.

Well I would have donated if you weren't holding back on the txt-to-speech. People are only going to have to branch the code and add it themselves you know..

But either way, appreciate and respect you work

Ben,

Branch which code? The core of AndNav2 is unfortunately proprietary (closed-source).

Thanks,

Chris.

Quoting Chris:
Nicolas,

Can we please have the _Free_ heading changed back, so that the link points to the FSF 4 Freedoms.

Cheers,

Chris.
