OpenStreetMap - Help fixing US-MapData (TIGER) PDF Print E-mail

Hello Community,

the OpenStreetMap-project, which provides the data AndNav2 is based on, could need your help.

In 2008 there was a huge import of USA US government map-data, called "TIGER"-data. There were so many streets that they could not be imported manually and a batch-script was used. Unfortunately in some cases the data needs some tiny manual improvement that can only be done by a helping hand, that could be you...

For more information on how to help, have a look here:

Best Regards,
Nicolas & Pascal

-1 #4 Harry Wood 2009-07-22 16:50 Yes defects in the TIGER data are fairly disastrous for any routing in the U.S. The more people get stuck in editing OpenStreetMap the better. At the moment even basic interstate connectivity requires some fix-up, but it's progressing fast. See the CloudMade 250 Cities analysis. Help turn those routes green. It's fun!

@andres - OpenStreetMap is global! Just join in mapping whichever part of the world you're in, and your map data will be use-able in AndNav

0 #3 Scott Bronson 2009-07-22 07:46 You're right — the Tiger data has a number of flaws. I've started fixing the areas around where I live in San Francisco.

Andnav makes it a LOT easier to check up on features when outside. Thanks for writing it!

+1 #2 Daniel Peckinpaugh 2009-07-18 05:30 I'm really having a lot of trouble with AndNav2, I can never get it to route anywhere I want it to, and Anytime I try to put in anything more then just the city name it won't find it, but if I just put in the city name it finds it just fine. In short, I can't manage to get it to route anywhere at all, I even downloaded and extracted the AndNav2 Tile Pack for the US onto my G1 and it still refuses to route anything? How can you go from AndNav1 Maping Fine without Turn By Turn to AndNav2 not letting me route? I don't understand? Quote
