Hello Community,

today I updated AndNav1 on the Android Market. Thsi updated Beta will run at least to Dec. 31st 2008. It also contains Veecheck (by Tom Gibara) the updater-checker also used in AndNav2.

Other changes are:

  • GPS is now queried as soon as AndNav is opened.
    • So chance the GPS-receiver provides already 'hot' locations when opening the map-screens is bigger.
    • Before the GPS was more likely still 'warming up'.
  • A bug with the Contacts was fixed, which caused a 'Force Close'
  • 'Last working Route' can now be kept when non was found during route-refetching.
  • some more...

Best Regards,
Nicolas

0 #13 Nicolas Gramlich 2008-11-27 06:51 FYI - Next version of AndNav2 will cache MapTiles to SDCard(default) OR Internal ROM. I just finished that feature and will put it out probably on Sunday, when I'm back from my Thanksgiving-Trip

Best Regards,
Nicolas

…the GPS notification at the top of the screen would go away.

Fixed, next version of AndNav1 will no more contain the bug that GPS gets called even when the app was closed

Thanks Nicolas, it really used up my battery.

+1 #8 Peter 2008-11-26 18:27 The "old" version of AndNav1 didn't manage the GPS well by itself. If I had GPS enabled in the settings I often had to go into another mapping program and then come back to AndNav to get it to recognize the position. It has been my experience (in only a few hours of random testing) that this version is MUCH better. I would expect that if you have GPS enabled in settings then the phone would always be trying to get its position, AndNav activated or not. Wouldn't it be sensible to turn off GPS if you don't want it? Quote

+1 #7 Tim Fedders 2008-11-26 18:24 With the old version of AndNav1, if I hit the "X" to get out of the app or just used the back arrow to get out, the GPS notification at the top of the screen would go away. Now, the notification of GPS is still up there trying to get a fix on my position. I am inside at work and it will not be able to fix my position. So, I turned the phone off and back on to get the GPS to stop trying to get my postion. Quote

+1 #5 Peter 2008-11-26 16:14 yup, i got a stacktrace. email sent! Quote

0 #4 Nicolas Gramlich 2008-11-26 16:09 Hm… shouldn't be the fault of AndNav as I'm not querying for the Name, just the IDs. (I only read out the names)

Didn't it bring up a mail with the exception/stacktrace ?

Best Regards,
Nicolas
